SENIOR POWER LINESMAN – Town of Drexel, Pop. 1853.  Performs skilled heavy-duty electrical work to install, maintain and repair electrical distribution, transmission and underground systems. Employee is expected to possess an experienced working knowledge of standardized techniques and practices utilized in power line construction, maintenance and repair. This employee will provide guidance and training to less experienced staff.  Work includes performing the most hazardous tasks in the town’s electrical distribution system, substation and associated equipment and requires work with high voltage electrical wires in adverse weather conditions.  Must be able to routinely lift up to 100 lbs safely.  Must have a valid Class A Commercial NCDL and pre-employment drug screening is required.  Must be a high school graduate and have a certificate from an electrical line technician technology training program.  Employee is subject to on-call and call-back work and may be required to work on holidays, nights and weekends as necessary.  Salary DOQ/E.  Excellent benefits package provided.  Applications may be obtained at Town Hall, 202 Church Street, Drexel.  EOE/ADA.  Position open until filled.  (Posted 02-18-19.)

Solid Waste & Streets
Residential Solid Waste collection is provided by Republic Service. The Town of Drexel provides street and sidewalk maintenance, leaf collection, residential yard waste disposal, and bulk item disposal.

  • Garbage pick up schedule for residents of the Town of Drexel:
  • Household Garbage: Tuesdays 
  • Rough Trash (furniture, appliances, bulky items, etc.): Mondays and Fridays
  • Yard waste (limbs and brush): Mondays and Fridays
  • Leaves: picked up curbside during the months of November and December
  • Recycling Drop-off Center behind R.O. Huffman Center
Electric, Water & Sewer

The Town of Drexel purchases its water from the City of Morganton. The Town operates 2 elevated tanks for a daily storage capacity of 1.0 MGD.  Sewer treatment is processed by the Town of Valdese. The Town of Drexel is also a public power community and a member of North Carolina Municipal Power Agency I. We provide electric service to 1200 customers.
